Lebanon devastation: Concern about reconstruction costs
Life is gradually returning to a Southern Lebanon city heavily impacted during Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah. The ceasefire is holding, but residents face destroyed homes and businesses, with limited government assistance. Lebanon's economic collapse since 2019 hinders reconstruction efforts, leaving the government reliant on international aid. Officials, alongside UN representatives, are working on a recovery plan, but its success depends on credibility, financing, and economic reforms. Unlike in 2006, external support may now come with conditions, and delay relief for those waiting to rebuild their lives. Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon.
