South Korea faces turmoil as impeached president appears in court
South Korea is gripped by tension as President Yoon Suk Yeol appears in court for the first time since his arrest on charges of abuse of power and insurrection. His detention follows the declaration of martial law in December last year. Rival protests erupted across Seoul as both supporters and critics of the president voiced their opinions. Several protesters have been detained amid rising unrest. The political crisis deepens, with prosecutors requesting a new detention warrant for Yoon. Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from Seoul.
