Afghans deported from Pakistan struggle to rebuild lives with limited aid and housing
Thousands of Afghan families born in Pakistan are being deported due to lack of legal documents. Many return with little more than their clothes, facing harsh conditions and limited resources. The Afghan government plans to help by assessing skills, offering jobs, and building housing. Over a million people may have been repatriated so far, including undocumented returnees. But aid cuts and fewer NGO resources make reintegration increasingly difficult. Many share crowded spaces, struggling to find work and rebuild lives from scratch. Despite the challenges, returnees hope for stability and dignity for their families’ future. Al Jazeera’s Osama bin Javaid reports from Torkham on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
