Hunger and disease spread in Sudan camps hosting South Sudanese refugees
Nearly half a million South Sudanese refugees are living in dire conditions in Sudan’s White Nile State, south of Khartoum. They are sheltering in overcrowded camps with severe shortages of food, clean water and basic aid. Many have fled repeated waves of conflict, with some displaced for more than a decade. Recent relocations from Khartoum have added pressure as Sudan clears foreign migrants from the capital. Cuts to international aid have worsened hunger, disease and medical shortages in the camps. Health centres are overwhelmed, offering only basic care amid power cuts and limited supplies. Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall reports from one of the camps outside Kosti in Sudan’s White Nile state.
