Saudi Arabia opens Hira Cultural District museum at Jabal al-Nour, site of first Quran revelation
Saudi Arabia has transformed the area surrounding Jabal al-Nour, the mountain where Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad received the first Quranic revelation, into the Hira Cultural District, a modern religious and cultural destination.
At its centre is a museum spanning seven halls, housing a 1,300-year-old Quran, centuries-old manuscripts and interactive digital displays.
During the Hajj season, around 5,000 visitors a day explore the site using sound, light and immersive technology to experience early Islamic history.
Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris reports from Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
