Death in detention case in Syria sparks anger and protests
Syrians are outraged over the death of Mohammed Ghmeira, who walked into a police station in Al-Haffa to resolve a financial dispute and left with fatal injuries. His family and the emergency minister say beatings in detention caused a brain haemorrhage and internal bleeding, despite warnings he had hemophilia. Rights groups report other recent abuses, reigniting fears of torture as protests spread to Aleppo and Damascus.
Al Jazeera’s Heidi Pett reports from Al-Haffa, Syria.
